When crossing the border from NT into WA and the region surrounding Kununurra, you face strict quarantine restrictions on fruit, veg, honey etc in order to protect their flourishing orchard industry. The drive from Katherine in NT to Kununurra in WA is around 520km and we had been going to head straight through, but we were very glad we decided to stop a night at Timber Creek on the Victoria River in NT, about half way between the two towns. Not far out of Katherine the striking escarpments that marked the beginning of the Gregory National Park (NT's second largest in area) were amazing along with signs pointing to some of Australia's largest cattle stations....

Our arrival in Alice Springs after an uneventful 4.5hr journey from Yulara was a very pleasant surprise. It was bucketing down overnight in Coober Pedy - 34 one day, and then a big muddy puddle the next.
