Our 10 hour bus ride wasn't too bad in the end.The majority of the people who got on in Agnes Water then got off at a place called Hervey Bay (the main jumping off point for Frazer Island, that we decided to skip out - too much money and too little time!) so the bus was only about 1/3 full for most of the journey which allowed us to spread out a bit!We arrived in Brisbane around 7pm that night and Alannagh and Robert were already waiting on us to drive us back to their apartment for a few nights free accommodation. Not only that but they collected Dominos Pizza on the way home for dinner - a good start to Brisbane!
We pretty much spent the next 2 days doing very little in the apartment while Alannagh and Robert were at work.It was just so nice staying put for a few days rather than having to move about every couple of nights! We watched TV, washed pretty much every item in our rucksacks and got up to date with the blogs and photos for the website but apart from that very little happened during the day.We did take advantage of Alannagh as a tour guide though in the evenings so on the first night we went to South Bank - an area down by the river to see a bit of the city. While we were down there we also had to go to the Max Brenner Chocolate Bar on Laura and Alannagh's instructions!!This place pretty much did chocolate everything - including Chocolate Pizza which was topped with melted chocolate, marshmallows, bananas and caramalised nuts!!We didn't go for the pizza but did get a chocolate fondue and some hot chocolates (that's a lot of chocolate in that paragraph) before going back for our ferry home. The thunder and lightning had followed us down to Brisbane and there was some amazing fork lightning which we got great photos of before bed!
On our final full day in Brisbane we took a day trip to the Australia Zoo (Steve Irwin Zoo). The live crocodile show they do is great and you had unrestricted access to some of the animals such as the kangaroos, and we got to cuddle a koala, but apart from this we both felt it was a bit expensive (about £30 each) and didn't offer a whole lot more than any other zoo we had been at.I suppose the good thing was that all the money collected by the zoo does go back into caring for and helping the animals so at least it was a good cause. It was an extremely hot day though and a lot of the animals were asleep in the shade so we left a little disappointed and headed back to the apartment but only after stopping at the beer shop for some refreshments that evening! We just relaxed on our last night there ahead of a 5:30am start to catch our bus the following day - on now to Byron Bay for our last stop before Sydney. We're getting closer by the day!!
Big thanks to Alannagh and Robert for their hospitality and help with everything while we were in Brisbane - we really enjoyed ourselves guys so thanks a lot.
