Our Fantabulous Trip Around the Globe
Wow, has it really been so long since we last did an update?! I guess that shows that fun in the Thai sun is where it's at...
We had a great time on Ko Pha Ngan, even if we did miss the big Full Moon Party. We hopped from hotel to hotel in our search to find the perfect one. We ended up settling in at Moonflower Bungalows becuase they had hammocks, sea-side bungalows, dogs, a big cat, and a really laid-back atmosphere. It was a highlight of our time in Thailand. We didn't do much other than hang out by the water, go for walks and spend time at a neat little local restuarant while Joel slurped up their banana-peanut shake. Yummy!
One of the funniest things that happened during our time there was the Rock Night at our hotel. They had a band, called Unicorn (I'm totally serious), that came in and did cover tunes. All of Joel's favourites were there--AC/DC, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Peppers, lots of stuff I didn't know. The best part was that I had offered Joel up to help the owners get ready for the night. You know, he's tall and strong so I figured that he could put up lights or carry the band's equipment. Of course, I forgot to mention this to Joel. oops :)
The owner came up to us later and said, "Your wife offered your services. I was thinking that you could make sure that everyone has enough beer and food, etc.". Oh crap. Joel looks at me quizically and I smile my sweetest smile. He ended up running around all night, sweating his butt off, while his wife drank the free beer that we were offered as Joel's payment. It was a great night! hee hee
I think Joel had a good time too. He eventually gave up on his duties and started to dance. If his sore neck is any sign, I think he had a fun time on the dance floor! And I got me a bit of rock education that night too, just to make sure that I can fit into Winnipeg.
On the island we met lots of great people, one of whom was Larry from Colorado. He was great company at the local restaurant and has a real zest for life. We had so much funspending time with him and comparing notes on the pastry available around our hotels.
We reluctantly pulled ourselves away from the island, mostly because the authorities told us that we had to leave the country by Jan. 19th. It was hard to believe that we had spent a month in Thailand! We headed up to Bangkok for a couple of days and then made our way into Cambodia...
