August 29: One thing that has impressed me about Africans has been their pride in their work. We were just at a gas station and the young man served us with a confidence that we certainly never see in a white-person doing the same job. They work hard at menial jobs as often they are the only ones in their families who can find a job. I see the same pride in the street vendors who sit there all day, everyday trying to scrape out a living for their families. Sadly, not every person can find or make opportunities; like Lesotho, there aren’t many natural resources to build on. Because nobody has any money, no commerce can be done. Despite that, people find ways to survive. -j
