Hey All,
Well I guess we are a little bit behind with the blog so we are going to try and catch you all up! My job.... Buenos Aires!
Well it is fair to say the week flew by in a flurry of steak, tango, great architecture, beer (for corx) and some bargainous Vino Tinto (for me). Its another one of thise cities that after a while gets you hooked and you fall in love with. Obviously it is the middle of thier winter here and having made our way south we are beginning to feel the cold. BA has been between about 10 and 15 degrees. Not life threatening but not Rio!
I think it is fair to say we tried to make to most of all the city has to offer, and enjoyed ourselves in the process. There are no real tourist attractions so much of your time is spent exploring the neighbourhoods and participating in traditions(involding tango, drinking coffee and eating steak, much to our delight).
We started our stay in the Micro centre about 500m from Plaza De Mayo which is equivilent to Westminster, lots of important buidings including Evitás Balcony! We also explored the cemetary which is truely amazing, more like a beautiful village, with some of the family tombs out doing many a home. There were hundreds upon hundreds of Cats as well which was bazare but meant Corx was in her element.
We then moved to San Telmo which is a lovely neighbourhood and prob our favourite. Its close to the centre but has a very different feel, its the area which used to be incredably wealthy so the architecture is amazing but it is now slightly run down resulting in a brilliant character. Its filled to the brim with Antique shops, cafes, and cheap boutiques. It has a very bohemian and artistic feel and some amazingly cheap Parrilla´s (steakhouses and grills). We found one which was a favourite with the locals and a real bargain! to explain the prices i will use a method which is close to my heart! Wine! 1/2 a litre of vino de casa (house red wine) is a little under 1 pound! living the dream! The steak here is amazing and I still haven´t tired of it!
On Courtenay´s Birthday we spent the day at a Zoo and then in Palermo which is another wealthy area of the city, where we par-took in Chocolate con Churros. Thick hot chocolate with long sweet pastries filled with caramel. Both feeling suifficiently stuffed we headed back to the hostel for a catnap before heading out to Palermo again for a brilliant meal (thank you Mum and Dad). Amazing place with fantastic food which we are still talking about. We then headed off for some cocktails in some nice bars. A true treat day!
BA is a lovely city which we would both fully recommend to anyone, we both mentioned that Grandma and Grandpa would love it!
Righty I best be off my lovlies. be good!
