We made our way up to Bangkok on a very early night train. It was the only one available, so it was a good thing we got to the station when we did. After an early morning and some coffee we made our way to my Uncle Philip's flat. It was so nice to get a hot shower and have a home atmosphere.
We spent our days sort of pottering about. We managed to find an official dealer for our camera and get it replaced, visited the IT mall and were able to have our pictures recovered. We visited Ko Sahn Road in search of some good deals, but only walked off with a pair of flip flops and some DVD's to catch up on a couple movies that we've missed by being on the road. We went to the Grand Palace and saw the Emerald Buddha (really Jade though). The interior walls are painted in beautiful story pictures which can be described as the Sistine Chapel for Buddhists. We were able to take full advantage of the vast transport links travelling on skytrain, metro, river ferry and river taxi which gave us a true sense of just how big the city is.
We enjoyed our visit with Philip and his girlfriend Rachel by sharing a couple dinners and a few drinks. Thanks for having us. Del even got the chance to play some chess and was able to fulfill a craving for soft boiled eggs and toasty soldiers.
We really should be in bed as we have an early flight to Australia, but first a 6 hour lay-over in Singapore....
