Hey guys
After leaving Bangkok for the Thai border (Aranya Prathet)?we finally arrived after a six our bus journey?Shauna needed to get her Visa sorted this didn't take to long because she paid a little extra to get it done straight away if you get my drift...
Once we was on the Cambodian side (poipet) we was surrounded my a million taxi guys wanting our business it was annoying but we just the best deal the journey to Siem Reap cost $35 not bad considering it was 170km and the road was the most amazing thing i have ever seen i really can only say that it was?like driving on the Ridgway back home it was full of?with Craters pot holes ETC it was purely a dirt track?and the journey took a bone shaking 6 hours.
We finally got to Siem reap this was unbelievable the city is fantastic it has a lot of expensive hotels these cater for all the package tours that are now coming to Cambodia, its good in a way because this is there main income.
Our driver took us to our Guest house we stayed in the Mandolin it was very well maintained the rooms were fine and it only cost $7.
After freshing up we went for a wonder and grabbed some food, everything is in dollars there currency is in reil but they prefer if you pay in dollars they can charge more i guess. We decided to spend the? next day visiting the temples of Angkor.
These temples were built between the 9th and 13th centuries, a succession of Khmer Devarja ruled from Angkor , using the vast wealth and huge labor force of their empire to carry out a series of monumental construction projects. Intended to glorify both the kings and their capitals many were built around the Siem Reap area.
In the Morning we?had a very early start we was up at 5 to get to the temple of Angkor wat to watch the sun rise. we had hired a Tuc tuc driver he stayed with us all day we arrived before the sun came up there was already a lot of Japanese and Chinese tourist arriving so we made our way across the?moat to the entrance of Angkor?wat,?the temple is surrounded by a?moat which is 1,5km?by 1.3km and forms a rectangle.?it used to house Crocodiles but these are long gone now..
The temple is unbelievable with its soaring towers it consists of three storeys each of which encloses a square surrounded by intricately interlinked galleries rising over 31m above the third level and 55meters above the ground.
We waited till sunrise unfortunately it was a little over cast so it was a little bit of a let down but the temple made up for that though, we spent a couple of hours looking around it.
We spent the day visiting the sites the area is massive there must be at least 70 different sites you can visit.
My favorite has to be Ta Prohm this is where tomb raider was filmed, the 12th century Buddhist temple of Ta Prohm is one of the largest Khmer edifices of the Ankoran era. It has been left just as looked when the 1st French explorers set eyes on it more than a century ago.
Inside is a maze of narrow corridors and crumbling stonework, here is an opportunities inside to get some amazing photos as the tentacle-like roots of mature trees embrace the stonework.
We had a fantastic day visiting the sights as you can imagine we was tired as we had a early start, we just chilled out for the evening.
We was leaving for Phonom Penh in the morning.
