Our last day on Bastimentos Island dawned calm and beautiful, the sea like glass. Before breakfast we returned to Isla Popa to catch that elusive Snowy Cotinga. How hard can it be to spot an 8" white bird in a landscape of green leaves? Turns out fairly easy when the light is low, and the breeze is calm. It flew up and down a few times as our boat slowly approached. Not great for pics, but still better looks than expected. And a life bird for all three of us.
A late flight today to Panama City affords time to wander the forest this morning in search of birds missed in the rain Thursday. A boat ride to Bocas takes us to the domestic airport; in the center of a sleepy neighborhood, the airport is about a block long. The 6 pm Air Panama prop flight goes smoothly. Thankfully all connections work out: the plane lands on time, the dogs sniff all the luggage before we're allowed to pick it up, the transfer to the international airport goes quiuckly with little traffic, the antigen test (both of us negative) for re-entry into the US, the transfer to our hotel, and still enough time to have dinner! Phew.
We're off early tomorrow, flying home with a brief stay until we take off again. Good trip, good companions, good birds. So nice to get out again.
