Rob and Jen bumming round the world for a bit
Hello all,
we're in Auckland at the mo, our last stop in New Zealand before we head off to Bali on Sunday morning. don't think we've done anything major since my last update, we've not had much time to see everything, so we've generally just been getting a feel for a place before moving on.
Those of you familiar with the goegraphy of new Zealand will know that Auckland is in the North Island, so from that you could confidently assume we've changed Islands, and you'd be right.
We made the crossing from Picton on the South to Wellington on the North Island, on Friday. We spent an evening and a day in Wellington, with the visiting of the Te Papa Museum the main attraction. Having said this though, one thing i have noticed in our various visits to museums over the past couple of months is that any real historical information seems to be passed over in favour of child friendly exhibits talking mainly of recent history or some abstract sense of culture, or something.
After Wellington came Taupo, a nice place but where there isn't much to do if you haven't got a hankering for some extreme sports and i haven't. After that was Roturua, which stank of eggs. Something to do with sulphur and thermal pools apparently, i wish i'd thought of that excuse when welcoming guests into my uni house, oh well.
Rotorua was nice again, though as we were only there one night, we missed out on seeing some of the natural wonders on the outskirts due to lack of time and, more importantly, knowledge that there was anything there. From there it was onto Wiatamo, nice caves but otherwise the village seems to be an exercise in seeing how board you can get, and we were only there 24 hours.
Thankfully, then it was onto Auckland. Jen and Myself seem to break the trend of travellers, as we actaully want to see the city's and enjoy being in them, as there is something to do. My belief is that a lot of other travellers like to soend time outside of the city, seeing how long they can grow thir awful beards (men only of course)
anyway, that's enough ranting for one session, see everyone in about 5 weeks,
rob
