Yesterday we left Louang Phabang at 6.45am on alocalbus heading to a place called Phou Khoun, the journey took about 3 hours and oh my god...it was bad! We were driving through the mountains and although it was beautiful, the roads could not have been more windy if they tried, the amount of hair pin bends were unreal and oh i felt so sick - it was so bad that the bus had to stop several times so people could get off to be sick - i was ok though i refused to let myself be sick - A positive mental attitude gets you a long way!
When we arrived in Phou Khoun we were really disappointed, not only was it still pretty cold but there was nothing in the town, we stayed there for a couple of hours and then decided to catch the next bus to Vang Vieng - the owner of the guest house we had checked in to wasnt too happy and tried to charge us for the use of the rooms, even though we had literally gone in, put down our bags and then left! cheeky b*****!
The journey to Vang Vieng wasnt nearly as bad as the first journey and we got there in about 3 hours and im so glad that we decided to come here as it is lovely, very lively and happy and chilled at the same time, our Guesthouse is lovely and we have a balcony attached to our room and a real toilet ***
There is so much you can do here, Tubing, Kayaking, Climbing, visit caves etc... so we will probably stay here for a while so we can have some fun!
Last night it was a full moon and a couple of the bars were having a full moon party, the first bar we went in to was offering free shots all night, so we had a couple of them when we got there and boy...was it bad, it was a whisky called Lao Lao and it was horrible! I ordered a whiskey and coke from the bar and the bartender asked if i wanted a little or a big one, so i said medium but he said no...big one and filled the glass with 3/4 whiskey and 1/4 coke - it almost blew my head off - and it only cost 10.000 kip (18.000 is about 1 pound give or take) the next place we went to was called the Smile bar, there was a bonfire in the middle and an Irish DJ playing music so we ordered another drink (a whiskey bucket this time) and we danced the night away! Audrey bless her was a little worse for wear and was sick when we got back, Steph couldnt close her eyes without the room spinning so she went for a walk and i got on to my bed, put on my eye mask and zzzzz i was out for the count! I didnt feel too bad this morning either - it just took a little while before i could eat anything! still it was a really good night and we had good fun! not going to do it again for a little while though!
*** No one told me before i came to Asia but most of the toilets out here are squat toilets...which can be interesting...especially when you are staying in the forest where the toilet is outside, with no light and you have a dicky tummy! trying to aim while holding a torch in your mouth so you can see what your doing is great fun! Up! i loved that for sure!
