Wednesday 12th June
I slept well again, although when my alarm went off at 6am for a swim I couldn't make myself get up, so instead I snoozed and stayed in bed until 6.45am. Then I had to get up and dressed. I headed out for breakfast with the granola. There were a few already up and having breakfast. We were unsure slightly on what to do, as we had our own breakfast but needed bowls and spoons. Eventually we took some mugs and spoons from a set table and started eating breakfast. The granola was good, the yoghurt was a little runny but it did its job. I also ate my squashed banana which had definitely passed its peak. It felt early and it seemed everyone had been woken up by the noisy taxis honking their horns.
Once I was done with breakfast, I headed to my room to get ready for the boat trip to the Ballestas Islands, the poor mans Galapagos. It was a boat trip lasting a couple of hours which would take us to an island where we could see birds, penguins and sea lions. We headed towards the pier after signing the sheet. The pier was busy, with lots of people doing a similar trip to us, there must have been 8 or 10 boats heading out at a time. At the pier there were plenty of fishing boats in the water and pelicans on the beach. There was a man feeding a pelican for tips. Luckily we managed to bypass all the queuing crowds and made our way to the end of the pier where we had a little wait a little before jumping onto our boat. I was excited as I had been told we would see penguins and the while group was now aware of my excitement of penguins. We jumped into the boat (I made sure I got a side seat), put on our life jacket and we were off. The boat ride out wasn't bad (I had taken travel pills)
