'A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step', Lao Tzu

Hi There, so a little background about my 'single step'...

Growing up I had no inclination whatsoever to travel outside the UK.

Zero, zip, nada, zilch.

However this all changed 10 years ago when my dad made the decision to take us on a family trip to visit my uncle and his family in Ontario, Canada. It was my first trip abroad and by the end of it I realized that maybe there were places in the world that I'd like to go and explore. But being extremely shy and anxious back then, I had no way of imagining how totally my life and myself would change over the next decade.

In the intervening years since that first fateful trip, I've done my fair share of traveling. Mostly in the way of cruises and sun holidays with friends and I've been lucky enough to visit some amazing countries including Norway, Egypt, Israel, Italy, Greece, Corsica and Turkey to name but a few favorites.

Then in the beginning of 2013 I traveled abroad alone for the first time and a few months later I fulfilled a 8 year dream of visiting Western Canada...A trip I had always been too afraid to undertake on my own...Maybe it's no surprise to anyone who has the 'travel bug', but after almost 4 weeks out there, I was having the time of my life and felt a true sadness when I had to head home.

So now the only problem I have is, the more I explore, the longer my Destination Wish List gets!

Hence the fact that I've now begun planning a bigger trip that both terrifies me and excites me in equal measures.

In the past while away I have always used facebook to stay in touch but given that I successfully kept a travel journal last year I thought bringing it online might be a better idea than endless- and somewhat pointless- status updates.There's still a lot to decide on as I won't be leaving until 2015 but that gives me awhile to get the hang of blogging.

So bear with me and I'll try my best not to bore you!
