On our first day into Namibia, we went for two truck drives through Etosha National Park. Surprisingly we saw some decent game, we saw some lions relaxing underneath trees, in addition to seeing both black and white rhino. We haven't seen rhinos up close on this trip, so this finished our animal spotting. Black rhinos are pretty rare to see, so to see it a couple of metres away from the truck was really cool. It then decided to charge at us, but luckily our driver was quick enough to drive away so our truck wasn't damaged! In the evening (and also the following morning), we went and sat by a watering hole, where we saw rhinos, lions, zebras and wildebeest all drinking. It was actually really cool, and great to see. I now feel like we've done every type of safari we could possibly do, but surprisingly I haven't got bored of game drives, despite the amount of animals we've seen.
From Etosha, we travelled to Cheetah Park in Kamanjab. This is where there are tame cheetahs, so we had our photos with them - it was so random, we walked into someone's back garden and there were just four cheetahs lounging on grass. We also saw wilder cheetahs being fed which was fun, before we travelled onto Swakopmund. Swakopmund is the adventure centre of Namibia, so I went skydiving which was lots of fun - I managed to keep my eyes open for the whole of the free fall which I didn't do last time in Argentina, which I was happy with. I've realised that I really enjoy skydiving, as I don't find it scary (even the jumping out of the plane was fine this time). In Swakopmund, we also went sandboarding, which was hilarious. The rest of the truck went in the morning, whereas as Zac was banned from going sandboarding, we snuck out in the afternoon and went separately to the group. I stood up each time (its basically snowboarding, using big boots and the boards) - I managed to do a big stack the first time (I've got a massive bruise on my leg, which has been hard explaining away to everyone else), but the rest of the times, my only falls were gentle (i.e. Sitting on my bum), so it was fine. My last run was actually really good, but not sure I'm a natural by any stretch of the imagination. We also went to the cinema to watch Bond, which I really enjoyed, though it did make me feel a little homesick for London.
Our last trip from Swakopmund was to Spitzkoppe - its a big area of rock formations, similar to Arizona or Utah in the States. We were due to go for a gentle hike to the top, but it was anything but gentle! We actually went rock climbing/bouldering without any ropes or anything - I actually thought I was going to die, as there were some sheer drops, but luckily we had some hardcore people with us who held our hands. Laura and I did a crab walk which was pretty effective, but we do have a number of scratches!
Our last bits of Namibia included visiting Sessrium and Dune 45, which is apparently the most photographed dune in the worlds (its a bright red sand dune). We climbed it, got covered in a sand storm and did some silly photos (pretty standard for us really!).
We're now just by the South African border - we say goodbye to our truck at the border (as overland vehicles aren't allowed in South Africa), so just been cleaning it out and trying to organise all our bags. We've all been shopping, so hopefully the bus we transfer onto at the border is big enough - if not, we're leaving some people behind! We now go onto Cape Town, where for some reason I've signed up to go shark diving (I can't even watch Jaws, so how on earth am I going to cope being in the water with great whites?!), before Mum arrives for our couple of weeks exploring South Africa.
Anyway hope everyone is well, and I haven't bored you too much with these three long blogs!
