Well today we visited various Angkor Wats (temples), including the infamous Angkor Wat, Terrace of the Lepar King and where they filmed Tomb Raider (cant remember the name of the place off the top of my head!) I'll get the photos up asap!
The majority of the Wats are in very good condition (I think quite a few of them have been renovated over the years to help preserve them). Although they are all built in the same fashion, each of them has its own unique-ness. For example, the Wat where Tomb Raider was filmed, almost looks like a movie set that has just been left there because all of the buildings and walls have been taken over by the trees and shrubbery.
However, I can understand why Angkor Wat has become the most well known. It is so much bigger than I imagined it to be and the surrounding grounds and absolutely amazing (you will have to see the photos to get a good idea of what im talking about!) While we were wondering through the various parts of the wat, we bumped into 4 monks (as you do). I dont know about you but I had a certain idea of what a monk would be like...pretty religious, reserved, timid etc. Well you couldnt be more wrong. They were very chatty, kept asking how old we were, if we had boyfriends, whether we liked men. Oh they also ruined for me the idea that they wore different coloured robes because of their different status or something along those lines...in fact it just depends on which colour they prefer. All a bit strange!
Anyway, if you are ever in Cambodia the Wats should definately be on your list to visit - I know I havent really gone into too much detail about them but they are really hard to describe. Like i said, the photos should give you all a better idea.
Heading back to Bangkok tomorrow - our final destination! Knowing that we wont have to carry our rucksacks again (all we've got to do is get them into a taxi and then onto a trolley..hoorah!) is such a good feeling. Got a bit of shopping and sight seeing to do and then back to England. Really cant believe that its nearly home time...where has the last 7 months gone!
Hope everyone is well!
