Thursday was an attempted (and failed) beach day at Scarborough, the beach everyone at home had been raving about - damn you panini woman! Well, a bit unfair really, as the beach was lovely, and very good for surfing, but pretty choppy seas and very windy on the sand so neither of us especially wanted to stay here. We had travelled a good 40 minutes on the bus to find it though, so we didn't feel it was necessary to leave until we'd made the most of our trip.... ...

We had a day trip on the train to Fremantle on Wednesday, a 40 minute ride down the coast to the next major town along. We visited the Maritime Museum, as Freo is one of the main harbour towns on WA. Tuesday brought the expensive and early daytrip to Rottnest Island, a thoroughly recommended day out which cost us a hefty $90 for the transfers, ferry trip, bike hire & snorkel gear inclusive. Almost worth the price, the cruise especially was lovely, and gave us a different perspective of the city centre and its suburbs early in the morning. Saturday night, after posting again, was the magnificent event that was Fremantle Dockers vs Sydney Swans for a brutal game of Aussie Rules Football at Subiaco Oval! Accompanying the event was the traditional hot dog each, then the special parade & minute silence for the veterans of ANZAC Day. The game was brilliant! After posting yesterday we headed out for a picnic on the green outside the musuem and art gallery complex, surrounded by seagulls. The WA Art Gallery wasn't exactly a patch on the Tate, but instead focused on more local exhibitions.
