Hello
We've just got back from a day trip to Fraser Island and have had the most fantastic day.
We caught a ferry from Hervey Bay to the island and were met by our transport for the day - a four wheel drive coach. It was the oddest looking vehicle we've ever seen but it was fantastic fun. You are only allowed to drive around the island if you have a 4x4 vehicle as the roads as basically sand and very bumpy.
Our first stop was to the rainforest where we walked round for half an hour. We then moved onto 74 mile beach, which was excellent. We drove along the beach in the 4x4 Coach at about 60 miles an hour, weaving along the sand and trying to aviod the waves! We visited a ship wreck which is situated along the beach and also coloured sand at The Pinnacles. Next stop was to Ely Creek where we walked along the creek for about half an hour ejoying the cool water - as it was sooo hot!!
After lunch we visited Lake Mackenzie which was the highlight of the day. Its a lake with no inlet or outlet but is just fresh rain water and surrounded by pure white sand - it was amazing. Look at the photos to see for yourselves!
Tomorrow we're off to Brisbane for 3 days and we hope to visit Australia Zoo before heading off to New Zealand - can't wait!!
Speak soon. Take care.
