22hour coach rides are worth it when your destination is a place like Buenos Aires, the only tedious part of the journey was the border crossing, but other than that, it wasn't as bad as we thought. We checked into our hostel ´Millhouse´ for 7 nights, and went for a stevie wonder around the town. That night like every night in BA there was a party, to which like every night we were in BA, we attended. Jack and Chris meet ´Quilmes´ Argentina's no.1 Beer. Ha, how close we'd become over the next week. Ha.
So one party down we woke up with hangover no.1 of 6 and joined the walking tour to arguably the most famous part of the city. La Boca. Translating to ´the mouth´ it's where BA started, where the first port was and where the real history is. It's still one of the poorest and most dangerous areas but has that vibe about it which you have to love. O yea and it's the home of one of the most famous football teams in the world (Boca Juniors, and the fact there was a stadium tour included was just a coincidence honest). La Boca is also famous for Tango, a dance that originated from where the seamen would dance with the hookers in the town when they arrived back from sea. The main street with cafes on either side and Tango dancing outside all of them. After a lunch, we finally….made it too La Bombonera, amazing stadium(not a patch on Anfield), not very big, only holds like 35´000 but you can feel just being there how amazing it is on match days. The stories we were told about the fans though, are just crazy. Fùtbol here means everything! My kind of city. (Its jack writing this by if you haven't guessed already)
That night having been shown how it looks, I signed up to a free Tango lesson, C had retired to bed his dancing days behind him, I was on my own. It just came naturally I guess, Ha, tell you what though, not feeling it when they get you to change partners, you go from having a clued up girl to one who hasn't got a clue! Was a good laugh anyway.
Next day, we joined in another walking tour this time to Recoleta. The opposite to La Boca this is where all the rich live, it's also where one of the most famous cemetery's in the world lies. As Cemeteries go this was the Rolls Royce, its like a mini house for a tomb stone, with streets of graves a weird place, but one of a kind, it's where all the rich and famous are buried, the likes of Evita and all past presidents of Argentina. With our history lesson done for the day it was if you haven't guessed party time, I'll be completely honest my memory lets me down at these parts but I am re-assured they were fun times. Thing is with South America, they go out to the clubs at about 2am finish up about 7am. Loco.
Buenos Aires International Football Tournament. If you haven't heard of it…. It's huge, me and C had rounded up 4 other mega hung-over lads who fancied a kick about. It's a 5-a-side tournament they put on every Friday for backpackers and locals. Think there was like 10 teams
Team Sheet-
1- Israel from Israel
2- Sam from England
3- C from England
4- Me from England
5- Yogi from Israel
6- Tom from Australia
All different abilities, all hung-over, all haven't played in ages.
We won every group game without conceding a goal I think C scored in every one, won the semi, 2-1, I managed to get both. We were into the final. I'm afraid it's where the fairytale ends, the rest if very English, we drew the game 2-2 and lost on penners, gutter. But a good run out.
One of the evenings a crew of us went out for a steak. That's there national dish, and o my days, the best grub I've had on the trip so far.(except Chili Muscles) I cant ever remember being soooo full, but the food was equally cheap as it was nice. So happy days.
This is where I began my demise, I spent the next few days in bed with a fever, while C did the work for both of us as he continued to Party hard, he went to Pacha with the crew, which is like the biggest club in BA, I think he said he got home at about 9.30am!
So overall Buenos Aires for me is definitely the best City I have been too so far. It's got it all really. The Football. The Food and the Females are among the best I've seen too. I´d love to go back there one day.
Yesterday we got back on the coach and I'm writing this from Iguaçu, North Argentina. Not sure if we´ll do a blog for this place but certainly do a photo album. So if you make sure you check the last few if you have been slack on blog reading. Just checked the message board is working so no excuses people.
Bye for now
