Today ended up being a transport day. We were picked up at 8:30am which meant that we got to see Charlie up and around before 8am. We said goodbye to a bit of old world charm and nostalgia as we left the Metropol and arrived at the station. We had to wait about an hour, but this wasn’t too bad as we were looking forward to our new Moscow-Berlin Express. And then we weren’t.
The cabin is small. Truly small. Not only that but the chairs provided are low to the floor and quite uncomfortable. Ben and I eventually succumbed and folded down the beds where we spend most of the day reading or listening to audio books as we watched the scenery go by.
We headed off to the dining car to see what was on offer for lunch; quite a bit and despite the waiter making a few mistakes, the food was ok and not too expensive. However... Dinner however was another affair. We headed for the dining car at 7:15pm and sat down only to be informed (in Russian and sign language) that we could get no food, only beer. A very disappointing evening. About 10pm we crossed over the Belarusian border post, who accepted the multiple visa form that was for all 6 of us without a problem. We then entered Poland and this wasn’t an issue either. As such, we got a fairly good night’s sleep on the train as at least the bed was long enough and quite comfortable.
