The road from Uyuni to Tupiza through the mountains was very picturesque. It was precarious at times though - at one point it was just wide enough for our truck - I stuck my camera out the window to take a picture and the photo shows that there was about one foot of leeway next to a sheer drop! I couldn't bear to look... Thankfully the weather remained dry during the journey (the area is prone to landslides when it rains); it rained when we arrived in Tupiza so we had been lucky.
We stopped along the way for a picnic lunch in a field full of llamas and we stopped at briefly San Vicente.
Tupiza itself is not particularly exciting. I walked around a bit and had some salchipapas (chopped-up sausages with chips) to keep me going until Karien's 18th birthday dinner at a pizza place in the evening. A couple of the girls and I went to the restaurant early to arrange the tables and decorate it with balloons and streamers for her.
Later we somehow got sucked into the Carnival spray foam tradition - we bought loads of the stuff and Denise and Carla had a foam fight that left them both drenched! I unsuccessfully tried to persuade the cute little daughter of the restaurant-owner to foam some irritating French customers!
