We spent a night at a campsite set among the fields of orange trees - it was like being back in the south of Spain! This was our first night's camping and Ruth and I made a good job of putting the tent up However, half the group upgraded to dorm beds instead!
The campsite was being run by crazy South African guy who spent most of his time behind the bar and seemed to consume as much booze as he served! He named a shot after Ruth - amarula and jaegermeister.
We had a group meeting over dinner, still no introductions though so we still didn't know most people's names. Our trip leader, Linda, explained the plan for the next few weeks - where would go and what we could do. I was not overly reassured when she told us that she has had malaria four times!
The next morning was an early start to take the tent down and continue the long drive up to Namibia. We stopped at Springbok, a town just before the border, to get money and groceries. The landscape changed a lot along the way (though it was difficult to take photos while the truck was moving).
