Late last night we were called by Rainbow, who broke to us that the four-person flat had been cruelly snatched from under our noses. Not wanting to risk any further disappointment, we instantly declared our interest for the two two-person flats.
Freddie and I chatted long into the night with our Egyptian roommate, who informed us of his homeland's political situation from an Egyptian point of view.
At midday, We met up with Rainbow again, who told us there was another two-person flat available in the same block. We briefly caught a glimpse of the man who had taken our four-person flat, sitting cooly on a motorbike, cigarette in hand. Surpressing our anger, we walked past and looked around the new flat, which we decided was better than yesterday's.
Eventually, we decided on two flats only two floors apart and paid the deposit. Freddie and I are in one; Charly and Lucy in the other.
In the evening, we met up with the Oxford students at a bar full of expats and tourists, called 'La Bamba.' We were showered in free t-shirts and loyalty cards (t-shirts being especially useful, since I have brought barely any clothes to this country). Two friends from school were there, including Iain, now studying Chinese at Oxford, and Jun-Feng, now a fellow Cambridge student. Iain is also on his year abroad, whilst Jun-Feng is just doing a summer course at Qinghua University.
I would like to credit Charly for coming up with the amusing title for this blog entry.
The photo is of Lucy and Freddie. Freddie is playing the fool.
