Nikko and Chuson-Ji (A quick note!)
These are very small towns full of very old temples and shrines. We only had 1 nights stay in each town.
We arrived in Nikko in the afternoon from Tokyo (we were at the fish market that very morning) We got the bullet train at around noon and got to Nikko and our hotel about 3 hours later. After checking in we walked down the road to see what we can see. We found a temple/shrine complex with some very nice statues and buddha's. We walked towards the centre of town finding a direction to Jakko falls and the main temple complex of about 4 very big temple sites. We decided to visit them the next day, we bought some food on the way back to our hotel at a small supermarket for dinner and a picnic we decided to have at the waterfalls before we go to the temple. We woke up early again which you should not be doing when you are on holiday and got ready to leave the hotel for our picnic at the Jakko waterfall and our sightseeing of Tosho-Gu temples and then take the train to Chuson-Ji in north japan.
In Chuson-Ji we were going to stay in a monastery for 1 night but unfortunatly it closed down so we had to stay in a town about half an hour away. We got to our hostel late at night and then decided to go for some dinner but the town was so quite and diserted and it seemed a bit too seedy. In our room after switching of the lights there was a glow from the floor skirting board, we switched on the lights again and found out it was a night light and after another 10 minutes search we found the off switch. We woke up early the next morning to get the train to Chuson-Ji.. We had very little time there so it was a rush up the mountain passing about 10 temples and shrines to get to the top. We had some lunch there and them came back down to the bus to to take us back to the train station. We picked up our bags from the hostel and got the bullet train down to Nagano and Yudanaka to go see the snow monkeys.
