Christinas travels!
Ive been in Sydney a week now and it would be very easy to stay another week or two or three. Im going to force myself to leave on Tuesday though and head up towards Bryon Bay. Ive bought a hop on / hop off greyhound bus pass that takes you all the way up to Cairns so its very flexible which is why I keep delaying leaving here! Ive been all around an seen the opera house / harbour bridge etc and it looks really good in the evening in particular.
Bondi Beach obviously had to be visited and it was nice but very rough and cold! Nearly lost my bikini when the waves come crashing against you - the plus point is that there are many surfers around! There are supposedly sharks and jellyfish in the water too so I didnt go in very deep although there are life guards on the lookout.
I did a day trip to various tourist spots - The first stop was to a wildlife rescue centre and they have either injured or abandoned koolas and kangaroos! So my dream of cuddling a koola bear has become a reality and Pebbles was lovely and soft!! Although you are not allowed to actually hold them but you can cuddle up to them whilst they sit on a branch of a Eucalyptus tree and have your picture taken.
The second stop was the Blue Mountains and you go up on the steepest incline railway in the world within a hidden valley. It was actually quite scary so was glad to come back on a cable car and have chance to take in the scenery rather than having too hold on tight for fear of falling out!
The third stop took us to the Olympic Stadium and village which was built for 2000 games. It was actually built by the same company building the delayed wembley stadium but the sydney stadium was ready a year early. Its pretty impressive and its still a big thing over here and they still have markings on roads from the marathon and things.
Ive been out most nights sampling the Sydney nightlife - the travellers place where Im staying organises events for every night. Some of them go out all night and so sleep much of the day as there here for months but given Im only here for a week Ive tried to get up at a reasonable time! (but wont say what time that is !)
One night I went to a bar called Minus 5 which is a bar compeletly made out of ice. They aclimitize you to a cooler temparature and get you to put on fur boots, a big coat, gloves and hat if you want it. Then you enter and get your drink from an ice glass and admire all the ice made carvings and bar area etc. You are only allowed to stay half and hour but that was long enough considering the temparature.
My room standards are slowly dropping as time goes on and I have less money and get used to not having much luxury! I have gone from having my own room in Cape Town, to sharing with 1 girl in Thailand to sharing with several girls in Singapore. Now I am in a mixed room with guys and girls which is obviously the cheapest option but the guys are all really funny so its fine! It was actual a mistake that Im in this room but I didnt ask to move as they were all very friendly and there was another girl to keep me company. At least they dont spend much time in the bathroom ad I have a deal where I cook them breakfast and they buy me drinks in the evenings. My room works out at 8 pounds a night this way and we get free internet, free dinner in evening so you cant complain as the rest of sydney is expensive compared to Thailand.
