Christinas travels!
Im in the final stage of the trip now and have decided to spend my last few days in LA after a quick tour around a few places including San Francisco, Las Vegas and San Diego. The Santa Monica area of LA has a great atmosphere in the evenings and all the shops are open till 11pm so I have not been able to resist the temptation of buying a few clothes as its loads cheaper than England.
Ive done the typical LA thing today and went out on some roller blades. After having a few falls I sort of mastered it but didnt look anything like the LA locals that zoom around at a very fast pace. On the rollerblading trip we also bumped into our first celeb and it was none other than a fellow Englishman Lemar! Not quite Brad Pitt but better than no-one. Luckliy I was sat down on the bench when he went past and it was not really a good time to meet him as I hadnt conquered the rollerblading at the time I met him. So he had to pull me across to him so that we could have a picture together but he was really cool and stayed and chatted for about 15 minutes.
Ive also done the popular LA trips and been on the tour of the stars homes - although most of them all you can see is the gates. You also get taken to Rodeo drive and see the exclusive shops etc. Hollywood is not really a very glamourous area as you sort of would imagine - lots of people told me not to stay around there and they were right so Im glad Im down by the beach - especially now that Ive bumped into my first celeb!
Prior to being back in LA Ive been to Las Vegas. I only managed 3 nights here as the heat was unbearable. It was 108 degrees during the day and about 90 degrees in the evening! Although everywhere is air conditioned it is hard to walk the streets to get to anywhere. I would of liked to have stayed a bit longer as we were staying in a luxury room right on the strip opposite Caesars Palace. It was a bargain price as it was mid-week and summertime and it made such a nice change from the normal cramped space I have been used to. One night we ventured to a club called Pure in Caesars Palace and it is one of the best clubs Ive been to - it has 3 floors and the top floor is open aired and overlooks the strip which looks good at nightime all lit up. I also managed to win some money on roulette so cant complain. We cramed in a quick flight over the Grand Canyon but it was the bumpiest plane ride Ive ever been on and felt sick most of the way. Vegas was definitely worth the long journey to get to from San Francisco - just to see the sights of the hotels if nothing else. I couldnt believe some of the sights - including that they have gambling machines in the toilets just in case you are in the toilet queue and cant wait to place your bet!
Prior to Vegas I was in San Franciso for 3 nghts. It had a really nice atmosphere around the main tourist areas. I have never seen so many crazy people that have lost the plot though when you venture from the main centre. Unfortunately our accomodation was in this area and so we had to get taxis everynight to get to the main centre for fear of some of the nutty people coming up to us.
Getting to San Francisco was an adventure. We hired a car and went along the pacific highway but rather than it taking the estimated 8 hours it took us 13 hours! I could of flown back to England in the time it took but at least it was a very scenic route. I took over at the wheel for a couple of hours which was a bit scary - driving an automatic car on the other side of the road having not driven for 5 months was a recipe for disaster but we are all still alive.. Since then though Ive been getting the greyhound buses but they too are full of lunatics but luckily Ive been travelling with another girl so have a normal person sat next to me!
America has been a very entertaining experience and although I was originally not planning on spending anytime here and just swap planes on my way back from Fiji Im glad Ive stopped off. The Americans love the English accent and the majority of them have been really lovely people... Its a shame I havent met an eligible millionaire so that I could live up in the hills in Malibu overlooking the ocean!
