Good Evening everyone from Bangkok!
We arrived here a couple of days ago now from Koh Tao which only took us a mere 9 hours by ferry and bus! It's really amazing here, so much different to all the little islands we have visited recently.
Anyway, the last time I wrote on here we were off to the Full Moon Party on Koh Phangan Island. I can honestly say I have never seen a party like it in my life! We even arrived a couple of days early and went to a pool party which acted as a kind of warm up for everyone, there must have been about 150 people in the pool which had its on bar on the side to save you from getting out. The Full Moon Party itself was incredible, there was easily 30,000+ people all on the same stretch of beach for two days solid. The music wasn't great but the atmosphere more than made up for it. We even had entertainment from a bloke who had too many Thai mushroom shakes from Mushroom Mountain Bar and felt that jumping off a two story building was well within his capability. I even made sure a couple of people didn't fall asleep next to the sea. They weren't to happy about being woke up but I think once they saw how far the tide had come in already they were a little relieved.
After the party I have never seen so many people on crutches or with bandages around some part of their body. You'll be happy to hear though that me and steve got out in one piece and there was no damage apart from that to our wallets.
All in all I have possibly had the most unlucky few weeks as well, ever since I got blessed by that monk! On arriving at our hotel in Koh Phangan I noticed that the back to my mobile was slightly lose so I decided it best to fix it there and then completely forgeting I had a lit fag in the other hand. Obviously I had to burn my finger and drop my phone. Now for most this wouldn't be such a problem however I seem to have this natural desire to kick anything I have dropped so in keeping with this tradition I drop kicked that mobile right across the reception in a fashion that even johnny wilkinson would have been proud. I managed to find the phone and the back but the battery was nowhere to be seen. Me, Ste and four of the staff helped for 30mins look but to no avail. I cut my losses and went to the mobile shop on the other side of the island (a good 30mins walk) to order a new battery which would arrive in two days.
So I did as asked and returned to be told that it would be the following day that I should collect it. I went back at 1pm and they said it would be there at 4pm so I thought I would stay in town and get some grub and just hang around till 4pm. Anyway 4 came and I collected my battery and made it back to the room. This time I was greated by shouts and whistles from the reception calling me over. Yep you guessed it, they found my battery 3days later in a plant pot! Now this wouldn't have been half as annoying if it wasn't for the fact every day me and steve looked round the reception for about 10mins on our way to the beach, gutted! Oh and thats not all, I lost my wallet in Koh Tao riding on the back of our quadbike, it must have just slipped out my pocket.
So Koh Tao was pretty quiet which worked out well considering the party. It was really a place for divers so the place was pretty dead after 10:30 but I think the rest did us good.
So as I said before, we made it to Bangkok!! We went to the zoo today which was so much fun! but we've practically been sight-seeing the whole of the time we have been here. The traffic is manic here and you have to cover your mouth and nose from the pollution. Tuktuks are so cheap here as well, we had one driver take us to around 6 or 7 different spots where he waited for us at each and all he chared was 20 Baht. Now we felt a bit bad so gave him 100 which is only 1.20GBP! All we had to do in favour was go to a suit shop so he could get free petrol which we were happy to do for him. That's another thing, everything here is about tailors, they are everywhere and all the Tuktuks take you to them. We even went to the 'Lucky Buddha Temple' which is surrounded by a school and once again me and steve were acosted for autographs by the children, aparently it has something to do with them showing their teachers they are practicing their English by meeting foreigners outside class, but we got to meet their English teacher who asked us to sit down with him and he would educate us. Guess what he wanted to tell us about, that's right a ruddy suit shop called Top Ten!! Even he was getting in on the act! He even told us where we could go to get a membership card, honestly some people!!
Oh and for any of you interested we went to a 'Ping-Pong' show last night and it was probably the most horrific thing I, and Steve, have seen. At first funny, but then sick......very sick. Its that bad I'm not even willing to describe it here! If you want to know about it you can ask me when I get back.
So tomorrow we are booked on a trip to go see the Bridge over the River Kwai and the Tiger Temple plus the biggest waterfall in Thailand so should be good. We even get to stay on the floating hotel next to the floating market. Of course photos will be provided.
Well I guess that's it. Please keep checking the photos and sending messages it really is great to hear from you all back at home, makes us feel less far away at times.
Next time I write will probably be in Hong Kong oooh exciting! So I can only think of finishing this in the style of Gordon Ramsay, 'Thailand in four weeks....done'.
Ciao Everyone!
Christian and Steve
