Arrived in Brisbane on Monday 31st March, after a wait around at the transit centre our bus for Bunk hostel finally arrived. After checking in we decieded to see what the city had to offer. Did a spot of shopping that day and went out for a few drinks that night but decided to have a reasonably quiet one.
Second day was a day of fun. Luke and Chris got all booked up to see their hero (Steve Irwin) and also sorted Ayres Rock (expensive). After some more shopping for the chaps we prepared for the quiz night epic! The quiz was at the hostel, and the lads could only think of one team name. " The Wet Bandits" it was and after a nervy start (isn't Frey Bentos the Prime Minister of Oz?? Apparently not!) we picked up our game in the second round. After a tie break, Luke 'The Iceman' Purchase stepped up for an epic win at rock, paper, scissors. We won a free meal and a jug of beer. By this time we had a complete change of room mates and too our delight we had some females in for a change. However we still had the fat snoring Canadian from the previous night. After some serious words though he had bought some snorring liquid gear so we were in for a peaceful one. The 4 new room mates were from Windsor and were rarther well spoken if not lacking in the common sense department. After our hellos Luke and Chris got into their gym jams for a very early night. We were off to the Holy Land at the crack of dawn. It was like santa was coming.
The next day Luke and Chris arose at 06:30 to begin their journey to Australia Zoo. The bus driver, Dave, is probably the most knowledgable man we have ever met. There was not one fact he didn't know about Oz (where was he on quiz night) and he also knew Steve personally. After our fact filled hour and a half journey we arrived. On arrival at Graceland we were treated to a free Australia Zoo illuminous badge quoting 'crocs rule!!!!'. Straight on the garments they went and we were off. Main highlights of the day had to be the Crocasium, an awesome show including unsprisingly a massive croc. Also getting up close and personal with the Koalas, touchey feely with the roo's, our pics with a cardboard cut out of Irwin, the big Croc Hunter truck and last but not least holding the big snake! That's right we had a pro pic with a python. Luke drew the short straw and had the head. Chris had the muscles so he packed the rest. Managed to rinse the gift shop of some classic memorabilia. Luke and Chris also wondered down Irwin way, a tribute to Steve. Really made you think just what a hero that guy was, the amount he loved life and the big hole he left behind. Crikey! All in all we had a bloody good day at the office. It didn't disappoint.
Meanwhile Matt spent the day abusing his credit card, shopping in Brisbane where he snapped up a ye ha white cowboy snake number belt. Don't worry the Hamer family he hasn't changed teams. That evening we decided to show Brisbane what we had to offer, went on a night out with the girls from the room to the Palace Hostel - Down Under Bar. The lads piggy backed three of the ladies down there. Matt 'Jackson' Hamer didn't fail to disappoint hitting the floor whilst riding one of the ladies. No serious injuries though. Luke and Chris arrived at the bar unable to hold a pint or lift their arms above their heads. Male pride would not let them set down their passengers. Out of shape much. After a cracking wet t-shirt competition and many drinks the night ended in the Golden Arches, records were set and broken, Luke and Chris need a while off from that place.
Matt 'lost' his Greyhound ticket so had to remain in Brisabane. Luke and Chris, after the most hilarious packing session at the hostel (Chris cannot fit into a corset) they headed for the transit centre a man down. Matt had no choice but to check into the penthouse suite at Bunk, he's still crying at the cost, whilst Luke and Chris ran into a couple of old friends at the busstop. Mr and Mrs Elton John are looking for a hiding. Off to Surfers Paradise we go - a small tear in the eye. How will we leave Matt in NZ??
