After the drama in Berlin, a couple of days in Dresden were just what the doctor ordered and I'm so glad I made the choice to come here. The pace is so much more chilled again, it's not nearly as big or as busy and there's been some really nice places to visit.

It's essentially split by the River Elbe resulting in the Neustadt (new town) and the Altstadt (meaning something else). It's really like two different cities. The Neustadt has lots of little bars and restaurants and nothing much touristy. There's lots of really really cool street art aswell. The Altstadt is full of old (well, new, but old looking) baroque churches and palaces. Dresden was flattened in two nights in February 1945 and as a result there's a lot of 1950's flat in amongst these really ornate and incredible buildings. One in particular, the Freauenkirche was totally destroyed to the ground, but has since been rebuilt using all the original materials to almost a perfect recreation of what it was before. It's really impressive!

The river itself is stunning aswell but unfortunately I've just been drenched by the heavens so had to come back sharpish to get some cover.

Today has also been cool for two other reasons : I saw my very first ever red squirrel, I didn't even know they were here! I named him Herman. I also saw a peregrine falcon feeding it's young chicks which was pretty amazing. Totally different from anything else I've done over the past couple of weeks but very cool! Train to Prague tomorrow, where I'm told it's not so chilled...! Wallet... Check.
