Having diverted our trip from Xian and the Terracotta Warriors we had hoped to see something instead - unfortunately the weather blotted out all of the landscape and we could only just see the other side of the Yangze. We decided not to go on the first excursion which started at 7am and got up about 8 to have our oats and fruit (No 2 declared she loved Oats - not having had them before) but by the time we were dressed and ready everyone else was returning on board. So we made our way up to the bar where there was a huge dancefloor with 2 kareoke screens and listened to the chinese strut their stuff - accompanies by the dancing troop, LM, No1 and No2.
The rest of the day was spent locked in the cabin, doing school work, passive smoking and sleeping. The next trip was at 8pm to a temple that had been moved from one side of the river to the other as part of the relocation scheme in the 3 Gorges Project. We met Pam and Mike shortly before we left the boat who assured us that life was no better in 1st class!
2 Chinese lads introduced themselves later and wanted to know what we thought of the Project. They felt that it had ruined the Wild River and turned it into a lake, many people who lived above the 175m line but whose livelihood was below had not been compensated, and others farmers had been moved into high rise towns that lined the first part of the cruise. They also believed that foreigners had a louder voice than they did due to the censorship and government control on information ... food for thought.
