We're now in Bali drawing to the end of the travelling, it's been great but we're ready to get settled for a while now.
The ballet in Prambanan was interesting not what you'd normally expect but Lucy enjoyed it.
We'd heard that the best was to get to Bali was via mount Bromo on a trip so we were quite excited as the pictures looked magical.
The trip itself went well and although sunrise was a little cloudy we got some great shots. The bind came, however, when we were set to take our a/c bus all the way to Denpasar on Bali (a 10 hour journey). We all piled in and then 15 minutes down the road we had to get out and wait for a 'coach' - something to do with Hindu New Year on Bali. 10 minutes later we're being jostled onto a hot, packed public bus with the tour guide shoving money into our hands saying 'this bus take you to ferry.' 5 hours and no toilet break later we managed to get the ferry.
It later transpired that it was a common scam and that the company would've been stranded on Bali the first day of the New Year as it's the Silent day. We were beginning to worry when we got off the ferry as everyone was saying 'no bus, no taxi.' All in all, we ended up in a mini bus bound for Lovina (which was about as far away from where we wanted to be as you could get). This was the only destination on offer. As it happened, we ended up relaxing by a gorgeous pool with a beautiful traditional room for 4 days so it all worked out in the end.
The next few days we spent getting to Lombok and onto our boat bound for Komodo Island to see the dragons. It was a 5 day odyssey of snorkelling, small sandy islands and large man-eating reptiles. We saw Komodos on 2 islands, funnily enough, Komodo isn't the best place to see them. The nearby Rinca island has more. Lucy was pretty scared on this one as there were so many mean, hungry looking beasts eyeing her up for breakfast.
So here we are now, we're off to Singapore in 2 days for a couple of days then Melbourne here we come. We've both been offered jobs so we'll be hitting the ground running.
