Arrived in Riobamba quite late and headed straight off to bed, we didn't want to hang around here to long as we still had to meet Ray and Louise, all we wanted to do was the train and then head on to Peru.Got up around 5.30 and munched some breakfast, headed over to the train station only to find it closed. Finding out if the train is actually running seems to be impossible, some of the line gets closed at random times. We decided to catch the bus to a town called Alusi and get on the train there as we heard it was definitely running from there, met 2 Dutch girls who where staying in our hostel so we all headed to the bus station together. Alusi was really busy when we got there and there was a queue to get on the train, we managed to get on to the 3.30pm train so had to waste a heap of time in Alusi which isn't that easy as the town is really small and a bit rubbish.Played a bit of cards with the 2 Dutch girls and another Dutch couple, we played s***heed, but as we learnt it called poophowff in Dutch. One of the train carriages broke down so our train was delayed even longer, we were worried about missing the last bus back to Riobamba but we decided to stay anyway and go on the train. If you queue early enough you get to sit on the roof of the train as it goes down the hill, we did this on the way down, they dropped us off at the bottom, not having a clue what was going on we all watched as the train pulled off and b*****ed off. Turns out the broken down train people were still at the bottom so they jumped on the train back up and we had to wait for an hour at the bottom, we entertained ourselves but acting like complete idiots, with one of the Dutch girls even managing to pull of the splits on the track. Finally the train came back and picked us and the broken train up, only the broken train slowed down the to the point were I could have gotten out and crawled faster and to make it even worse we couldn't get up the steep parts, the wheels were wheel spinning and smoke was coming off them. Finally they decided to leave the broken train where it was and drop us off, this left us really close to the last bus time, I had to bolt up a steep hill and flag down the last bus as it was driving by, we were still at 3300metres so it was a lot harder than it sounds.Made it back to Riobamba and headed to a pizza place for some food, being up early we were both knackered so headed off to bed.
