Ed and I arrived in Adelaide in on the 4th and settled in before the arrival of Kerry...on our first day there, we had the surreal experience of witnessing the children's Christmas Pagent right outside our hostel, was so random seeing as it was the beginning of November and it was sunny, though it was highly entertaining watching real life camels walking down the street...we didnt try to do too much in the way of touristy stuff...though we did do a tour of the Adelaide Cricket Oval early on...our tour guide, Phillip, looked rather like Rolf Harris and had the most amazing multicoloured Blazer ive ever seen...we then headed down to the Sir Donald Bradman collection and saw all the memorabila that was there...which was well interesting...and increased our anticipation of thrashing the Aussies in the Ashes...!
Kerry arrived on the wednesday and even though she was tired, we managed to have a wicked day by the river Torrens...we hired a pedalo for half an hour and nearly got attacked by Black Swans and then headed down to the Botanical gardens...think Kerry set the record for getting sunburnt after just arriving in the country at just under 5hrs since landing at Adelaide airport...! We then got an impromptue rendition on a Didgerydoo by the curator of an Aboriginal museum and an explanation on Aboriginal art, which was so interesting...the next day we took a tour of the city on the Adelaide Explorer...saw a few of the sights like the the William Hill Lookout, before heading out to Glenelg Beach...we decided to spend the rest of our time in the amusement arcade, reliving our fading youth down some wicked water slides...very childish, but so much fun
Just when i thought this past week couldnt get any better...something happened to us on Friday night that left me and Ed so excited (and left Kerry rather underwhelmed). We decided to head out to a club called 'the Church'...mainly cos the drinks promo was 90cents for an hour, which works out at around 35p...by a stroke of genius, I had my camera out with me that night...turned out to be one of our best decisions ever...got outside the club and i read a noticed board that made me blurt out 'OHH MY GOD'...it read: Dan O' Connor from Neighbours...Live...YES!!! Couldnt believe it...Ned Parker, Neighbours Legend in the making...!!! Anyways, he made a few appearances on stage...hosting a Quiz that Ed and I shouted all the answers to...and he served Ed a drink at the bar, while managing to get some juicy spoilers...we also got a mention on stage by the M.C as 'Chris and Ed, who've come all the way from London to be here tonight'...its true...but best of all, Ed got his arm signed and Ned signed my stomach...yes!!! Worth the airfare ticket alone...! Thing is he isnt even my fav character...so dunno how im gonna be when i meet real legends like Harold or Toadie...too much excitement...yes!!!
Our next major event was the Wine tour down Barossa Valley...South Aus is famous for making wine and this was our first proper tour with Kerry, so we were looking forward to it...got a pretty cool tour guide called J.R...who not only gave us a bit of background of the city, but also told us about the darker side of Adelaide and the negative aspects (i.e the fact that its notorious for Serial Killings), not everyday a tour guide tells you about that stuff...but i think thats what endeared him to us...on our way to the valley, we went up the world's tallest rocking horse at an old toy factory...which was a bit random...we went around four wineries including the famous Jacobs Creek and also had a lunch which included BBQ Kangaroo meat...which i have to admit was pretty nice...though i felt guilty when i thought back to the Kangaroo i named in Albany...
We awent round Adleaide Zoo on the tuesday, which was pretty cool...saw some Lions during feeding time, blood and guts everywhere, a Koala and had another unexpected sighting of a Quokka (the animal that we saw in Rottnest Island)...they didnt have any elephants, which i thought was a bit strange...
Our last major day in Adelaide was spent watching England play South Australia at the Adelaide Oval...got to see the legend that in Monty Panesar bowling and taking a wicket...was a pretty chilled out day...cant wait to go see our first day of Cricket on Boxing Day for the Melbourne test...its meant to be amazing
