So the second installment of our 41 hour day began with a walk around Waikiki town, where we were immediately hit by how American eveything was.? Everyhwere we walked there were fast food restaurants and ABC stores.? We made it down to the Hilton Hawaiian Villiage, where?Ed and I watched the sunset and were treated to a?Polynesian dancing and fireworks show.? Being backpackers, I think we musthave looked a little out of place, as a nice American couple called the Brown's invited us to join them at their table.? They were a really nice middle-aged couple, who were really interested in our trip, although they did ask us if we knew either Prince William or Harry...?!?!
We headed down to the beach for the first of many sunbathing sessions.? We randomly bumped into Shaun, who we met in Robinson Crusoe Island and ended up spending the rest of our time in Hawaii with him.? It was really weird, we didnt really speak to him much when we were in Fiji, but he ended up being a really funny guy to hang out with.?
?The next couple of days revolved pretty much around chilling at the beach for much of that week.? We decided to head down to Diamond Head crater, which was an extinct volcano, wher we managed to get an awesome view of Waikiki beach from the summit.? That night, us three went on a pub crawl, which turned out to be a really funny night...ended up undertaking some legendary dancing with a guy from Stockport, called Jon.? We even tried our hand at Ganster rapping, which included subject area never previously visited by Messers Dogg and Dre, like the Nazi's, while Jon came out with the classic upper-middle class rap of 'im gonna pop a cap in your face, post-haste'...brilliant...!!!
The following day, we decided to head out of the tourist trap of Waikiki and tour a tour of O'ahu.? The former manager the hostel we were staying at took us and a few others in a van and showed us around the big Island. Its really easy to stay in Waikiki and not venture out of the tourist areas, but it was really interesting to get a part of the Hawaiian culture. Jack took us to past Diamond Head, through some Pineapple field's and onto an ancient burial grounds, where we learnt about the loacal customs and food. We made it up to Halewea, were we saw the famous Pipeline Beach, home to the 40ft wave and a mecca for all surfers. Apparently they saw Jack Johnson on the tour a couple of days before, but there was no sign of him today...!!! We ende up chilling at Sunset beach, where we saw the sun go down, while eating pineapples and playing frisbee. We were pretty knackered by the time we got home, especially seeing as we were out the night before, but I ended up chatting to a couple of really nice Japanese girls called Marie and Momo, who taught me some Origami and addedto my already extensive Japanese vocabulary.
