Today is our Washington dc tour day.
Early start for a four hour bus ride each way so naturally all we wanted to do was sleep, and the bus driver wanted the air conditioning going full bore and set the temperature to freezing. We're not kidding, we actually used our newspaper that we "borrowed" as a blanket!
The trip from new York to DC is quite beautiful. It's kind of like driving from mount gambier to Hamilton, except it's a freeway that's lined with huge leafy trees and not ugly scrawny pines.
Our tour stopped at the Lincoln memorial, the white house, Capitol hill, and air and space museum. From our stops and drives we could see the monument, the Vietnam memorial (and lots of other stuff we can't remember the names of). Our guide was Spanish and his accent was pretty thick so web he would speak in English after explaining something in Spanish you would miss half of it because you didn't realize he was speaking again.
DC is beautiful. It would easily be the cleanest city we've been to do far. And we had great weather for it, sunny and hi 20s-low 30s.
Something we did hear the guide say was His explanation of a horses body position in statues. Apparently of a horse is up on its back legs, the rider died, if the horse only has one front leg lifted the rider was injured and if the hose is standing normal the rider was unharmed. Hopefully we heard that right!! Unfortunately we didn't learn a great deal today.
We were given fast facts if anything and only if we realized the guide was actually speaking English. If your interested in somewhere like DC you need more than a day, you could probably get away with just two and might not even need a guide. We didn't get enough time off the bus to look around heaps and try and read a few plaques which was disappointing. But we did get to see everything!
The tour also took us to madam tausaudds. This gave Chloe the creeps. An surely they're not that tall in real life, Tom cruise is taller than both of us then! Kane had fun though, laughing more at Chloe than anything. At one stage she went to walk past someone and realized they were about to take a photo of joan Collins so she apologized and waited for them to take the photo. But there was no flash or Clicks or shutters closing (or movement really!) and then she realized they weren't real. Infact it might of been yoko Ono? Kane was in fits of laughter.
Off to Hawaii tomorrow...a total of 15 hours traveling time. Doesn't that sound fun!!! xoxo
