Friday morning, I woke up bright and early in Paris to start my long day of travelling. Mom and Jamie walked me to the subway station near our hotel and we said our goodbyes, even though I would be seeing them at home the next day.
I took the subway to Gare de Lyon, where I caught a train to the Lyon airport (I had booked a roundtrip flight to and from Lyon back in January). From the airport, I flew to London Heathrow to catch my connection home... that's when things got interesting....
There was apparently a fire on the runway involving a parked plane - no one was hurt. The emergency caused Heathrow to close all runways, so no planes could land or depart. The closure and subsequent back up upon reopening caused my layover to be 8 hours long instead of the scheduled 4 hours.
At 8:30pm, I was happy to get on the plane, and seven hours later I landed in Canada! Carol was waiting with a big smile on her face as I entered the arrivals gate and we drove back to my house where my grandmother and my two puppies were anxiously awaiting my arrival. By the time we all said our hellos, it was nearly two a.m eastern time, meaning that I had been awake for 26 hours! I went to bed and had a much needed sleep.
Being back home is great. It's nice to feel so comfortable and relaxed... and even better to know that I won't have to pack a suitcase for a while! Now if I can just get over this jet lag...
Six months, twelve countries and so many memories! Thank you to everyone who has followed my blogs, it's been an amazing adventure and sharing it has made it even better. I'm so grateful for all the support of my friends and family!
Now on to the next adventure!
