At the Colchagua Museum by 10am for lessons in history focusing on South America, we were very impressed with the expansive and well displayed collection. Among many other things this museum contained a gun from the 1500's made out of ivory, etched by Leonardo DiVinci and a mummy older than the mummies in Egypt.
All that thinking made us quite thirsty so we headed to Mont Gras for our much anticipated make your own wine tour. Another highlight of the trip, we tasted and measured until we perfected each one of our blends. Going through the entire process, we filled, corked, sealed and labeled our bottles.
The original plan was to have lunch at PanPan VinoVino but we lost track of time sipping on Syrah and Late Harvest in the Spanish Hacienda style courtyard at Mont Gras.
Slamming the breaks when we saw a sign for empanadas, we had a quick lunch at a tiny Chilean restaurant. Eating in the dining room that extended from the owners home, we had our best ever empanadas, a corn and bean stew and alpaca soup.
Our last winery while in Santa Cruz was Montes, the Angels wine! During the tractor ride overlooking the vineyard, BC made friends with a little lady named Marie that has traveled all over the world by herself. The cellar was unique in that the focal point was the barrels, nothing else and there was cathedral like music playing which made it feel very special.
