This morning we had the luxury of sleeping in! We had several options to choose from today but we opted out of all our plans and just decided to spend the day wandering around Zurich. I think today we had hit the "time to go home" wall. We did a little bit of shopping before buying a round ticket on the commuter ferry for a ride around Lake Zurich and just took in the sights of the city from the water. A quick walk back to the hotel to collect our luggage and we found ourselves back at the train station. This time was a bit more confusing but we managed to get ourselves on the correct train and checked into our hotel. We retrieved our bags and while I did the sorcery work of balancing the weight evenly between the two suitcases Grant went to hunt and gather for dinner.
What we did not realize on our arrival at the hotel is that this is the proud home of the Angel Wine Tower Bar. Youtube this if you have not heard of this delight! Here is the description: "An impressive backdrop for the acrobatic performers the bars 16 metre wine tower consists of over 4,000 bottles of wine and Champagne." Here is my description: From your hotel window you gaze at a glass tower structure containing wine bottles on all four sides that flashes garish colours while very loud music plays. Young women in not very big costumes are harnessed and raised up to retrieve bottles of wine. The one I watched was banging into the walls and could not find the bottle she was meant to find. Another about 30 minutes later was a bit more graceful and did manage to find her bottle including some choreography. Very Very Vegas! The gentleman at the bar seemed to be very impressed. I was less so!! The awkward part is that I'm pretty sure that the "angels" could see me equally as well as I could see them so I can likely assume that they could see me shaking my head!!
Grant returned with a simple picnic type dinner which was just perfect. Bags packed and weighed, we set our early alarm for our departure back to YYZ.
The fight home was unremarkable and is never as terrible as we think it might be. Our arrival party included Chester which is a always a joy (thank you Karen and Matthew) even though this was the tirip where wer reazlied Chester is no longer a young pup and had overdone it at his sleep away camp.
As always it was just lovely to be home and left us grateful to be Canadian once again and so, until our next adventure… which may or may not include Italy … but if you were a betting person and you have spent more then 5 minutes with my Grant you'd probably know which way to lean!
