Tim & Cheryl's Honeymoon!
Hi Everyone,
Its monday 31st October.
Thanks everyone for your messages. It's great to hear from you.
We have found an internet point in ALBA. A town of 30,000 people in north east italy.
Tim wanted to come here for the Donkey race. However it was on last weekend! Bummer!!!!!! He's very dissapointed.
It is the Truffel Festival (Tartuffu Festiva) we really came for. They are these fungus like things that are dug up out of the ground in oak forests by dogs. There are black ones (nero) and white ones (bianca). They smell like old socks. Tim loves them. They are very expensive. We bought a tiny jar of tartuffu paste for 19 Euros which is about $30 australian!!!!!!!!!
We had two wonderful days bike riding up valleys in the italian/french alps almost to the french border. Absolutely beautiful mountains with a mountain stream/river beside us all the way. Little town after little town would appear around the next bend. All the villages were ancient - stone buildings, houses, churches centuries old.
We were riding ever higher and higher towards the snow.
We stopped at a Trattoria for morning tea and got a plate full of homemade hazelnut cake, biscuits and cappaccinos for 3 Euros, about $4.50 aus. Amazing.
Then we stopped in a tiny village for lunch.
They had no menu. Just what ever they were cooking that day.
We had the most beautiful risotto, spaghetti bolognase, red wine and espresso coffee with lots of sugar.
There were about 15 workmen eating there also. It was just like a family lunch.
Then we rode down hill just about all the way back down to our van.
We have spent two nights in Alba in a plush old fashioned Hotel. It has been here since 1867. We needed a bit of space around us, a shower that didn't run out of hot water, a place to charge the phone and a toilet we didn't have to find a place to empty!!!!!!!
Luxury.
We are trying to work out where to go now. The van needs to be back in Rome on Friday. Probably to Pisa. Will see the tower, take a photo.
Sorry we haven't been able to get any photos onto the internet we are not very clever in that respect. You will have to wait until we get back.
Love to all.
Love >Cheryl XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
