Day 36
packing up the backpack again, today we headed off across Thailand to the Eastern coast, the Gulf of Thailand and onto home of the full moon party, the island of Koh Phagnan! Our day involved hopping on a longtail boat for 20 minutes, then driving halfway in a minivan, then stopping at a random roadside type of travel agent/thai cafe for an hour an a half which had a rooster running around inside, and a bunch of backpackers trying to get across Thailand to the other side. After a boring wait our 'aircon' bus arrived across the road. Once we got on we managed to grab the last few seats and then about 20 more people loaded on the bus without a seat, so they had to stand for an houfr and a half before we got to the ferry port, and of course the aircon was non-existant!
Day 37
Woke up this morning to the sound of the waves a few metres away from our little wooden beach hut! how cool is that! We are staying at Coco gardens bungalows which are run by 2 expat Brits from the Jersey islands who went travelling and never went back to Jersey! We have met quite a few expat Brits who love Thailand so much they have decided to make it their home! We decided to hire a scooter and explore a bit of the island, so me clinging to the back of Sven we drove up the West coast, towards the north of the island stopping off at different beaches and stopping inland to see a waterfall and a few water buffallo chilling in the rivers. Arriving back at Coco Gardens we had a good meal and sat chatting to some fellow saffas at the very cool little beach bar right on the waters edge whilst drinking very concentrated red bull and vodka warming up for the well known full moon party later that evening! Around 10.30pm we hopped in a songtheauw taxi and headed towards the madness of the full moon party! arriving on haad rin beach (the san antonio of Koh Phagnan, thank god we didnt stay there yuck!) we went to buy our buckets which consisted of a whole lot of vodka and one little red bull, and a big hug from the lady who sold it to us telling us 'she loves us long time!' classic! Buckets in hand we walked around the beach people watching and checking out the firedancers as well as the fire skipping rope which involved a bunch of dumbass drunk foreigners thinking they could attempt to jump over a burning rope but failed each time and tripped and ended up with nice burns as a reminder of full moon party. Along the way we found some neon body paint and some glow sticks which added to the fun! after dancing the night away we made our way home in the early hours of the next morning, aah to be forever young hey!
