The flight from Laos was long but ok, our flight from Vientiane got changed by 2 hours and no one informed us but they did upgrade us to business class for our honeymoon- first time ever and such a shame it was only a 45 minute leg of the flight!!!
We arrived to sunny capetown and were immediately surprised to see the townships flanking the roads on the way into town. It was crazy to see such poverty so close to the city and really didn't sit right to know these worlds apart actually live so close together. Hard to believe nothing can be done to help these people when the wealth is clearly close by.
We also got to see flamingoes on the side of the road on the way in.
We had an apartment for 5 nights in green point before we started our tour. We were very happy with the apartment, excellent location and really spacious. We had the best time in capetown, there is just so much to see and everything is so cheap compared to home. I feel like if you had the ability to build and create your own amazing city in the world I think it would be hard to beat capetown. The mountains are spectacular, the beaches are amazing and the waterfront areas are just so well done you want more time there! Plus there are fantastic shops ad restaurants and its so affordable! You would obviously want to change the townships though and give more people nice houses but geez we were impressed! The favourite things we did were:
Walking down to v&a waterfront. A beautiful harbour with good shopping, views and lots of restaurants
Shark cage diving- what an experience! We were lucky enough to see 7 great white sharks, the biggest being about 3.5 metres! They literally swim right in front of you, one slammed into the cage right in front of Chris and I, it's teeth were about an inch from our fingers in the cage!!! A great experience and I really recommend it!
We also enjoyed doing the red hop on hop off bus, a good way to see the town (especially since the local buses were on strike) and we also used it to drop us off to climb table mountain. What a spectacular climb! It took about 2 hours but the views were breathtaking the whole way up. We got the cable car down, we were so lucky to have a beautiful clear day for it.
We did a winery tour in stellenboch and fraenshoek, I'd love to list all the wineries we went to but we had quite a lot of wine... And can't remember!
One of them was called hedgehog ridge, another was Neethlingshof where we had a really cheap and yummy lunch! We also enjoyed la Mott winery, a bit fancier but really nice.
We also hired a car and drove to some beaches with nice views over capetown and also drove to cape point. A very spectacular drive, we saw penguins and baboons on the way too! The coast line is just indescribable, so beautiful and amazing to see at sunset! Highly recommend to do it!!
We climbed lions head which had beautiful views however unfortunately as we were climbing there was an emergency where 2 people fell off the mountain and had to be air lifted by helecopter. We didn't hear what happened but looked really bad.
We loved eating the amazing food!!! Our favourite place was called husser grill, we went there twice. They have amazing steaks! We bought steak and had entree and sides and a bottle of wine and only around $70!!!
We also got to hear both the Bon jovi and Justin beiber concerts as we were staying by the new stadium. Bon jovi was much more enjoyable than beiber!!!
We also went to the old biscuit mill for breakfast on Saturday, yum yum yum!!! Food markets all set up it was just delicious!!!
We moved to the hostel were we met some of our group for the start of our absolute Africa 54 day overland truck tour from Cape Town to Nairobi. There were only 2 girls there to meet, only 6 of us in total for the first leg to Johannesburg and the other two arrived the next day. We met our tour guide, she seemed very nice. We went out to some clubs that night with a group that just finished their tour in the other direction. They all raved about it so that was good to hear! The clubbing scene was fun, didn't have to big o a night tho got back about 2am.
All in all, capetown was just beautiful and probably one of my favourite big cities out there!!!!!
