I can't quite believe we made it here!!! This is such an amazing place!!! The mountains shoot straight out of the Patagonian steppes, straight into the air! What an amazing place. Mount Fitz Roy looks more like a castle from a fantasy novel than a real mountain!! The picture I posted was taken from the bus station!! The mountain overlooks the entire town. Most of the roads in town are unpaved, and the grocery store is more like a decent campground store. There is one bank, a couple gas stations, several hostels, restaurants that serve wholesome stews and hot chocolate... I love this place!! Almost 3 hours from the nearest town. The road ends here. The only place to go from here is back to where you came from. The hostel is crammed full of people, but everyone is pleasant and friendly. Okay, it was worth the bus marathon! Tomorrow we hike.

cher67 I know!! The whole town is in Fitz Roys shadow. Today we did the Cerro Torre hike because it was clear this morning, and it is the hardest peak to see without being obscured by clouds. 11 km with lots of fairly rough up and down. My legs are about done. It completely clouded over around 2, but we were at the end of the hike by then. The glaciers are huge, the color of the water doesn't measure up to our mountains. But those spires are breathtaking. The pictures hardly even look real. I don't know if I can do another, even longer hike tomorrow!! This is a game for the young!! Which I am definately not feeling!!!
