We departed from Cheetah Park and headed to the Matterhorn of Namibia - Spitzkoppe. It is a well known as an ancient San sacred sight. The Spitzkoppe, is a group of bald granite peaks or bornhardts located between Usakos and Swakopmund in the Namib desert of Namibia. The granite is more than 700 million years old and the highest outcrop rises about 1784 metres above sea level. We camped at the base of one of the outcrops under the African stars. We climbed on top of one of the peaks and watched the sun set. It was beautiful.
2nd October 2009
We were up early and found a good vantage point to see the sun rise over Spitzkoppe. We packed up camp and left at 8.30am. Our driver decided to go the short cut, over a dry creek bed, we got bogged and spent hours digging the truck out in the roaring heat. We arrived in Swakopmund mid afternoon. Our accomodation for the next 3 nights is in a hotel, hot showers ,toilets and a bed with sheets.............. We booked our optional excursions, relaxed and had a night out with the tour group.
