Yay we have a chance to blog again! We've finally arrived in Cambodia after spending four days bumming about Malaysia generally doing nothing! Arrived yesterday about 5pm to a crazy heat! It's absolutely roasting....not any kind of roasting we've ever experienced! We're in Phonm Penh for 3/4 days, it's a pretty crazy city. There are cars, motorbikes, tuk tuks everywhere! Our taxi driver we got from the airport was a sweetheart until he started demanding a $1 tip. Whilst he was doing this we had a guy pushing another guy with only one leg and one arm around on a makeshift bed, pestering us for money. We've just arrived in the country for godsake....welcome to Cambodia! haha. We were well prepared for the begging so it didn't come as any surprise. Today we had a little boy walking circles around us saying 'yum, yum' yum' in a creepy kind of way! He was definitely sussing out how to get into our pockets, we're on guard! Apart from the begging Cambodian people are really friendly, it's definitely a place we think we're going to like. One girl last night started touching my arm and laughing as the hairs on my arms were 'white', so funny!
We're just cooling off in a internet cafe after being to the Russian Market and walking along the river getting our bearings. We managed to purchase some souveneirs that will be winging their way back to someone at home in the next few days. Keep a look out Mums & Dads!
Since our last blog we managed to fit in a few more sites in Thailand. Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta, camping in Ao Nang and Hat Yai . Phi Phi was absolute paradise. From the moment we arrived on the boat I was mesmerized by how gorgeous it is. Like Gili Islands there are no cars but thankfully they don't use horses here just men pulling carts to carry your luggage! It is definitely the biggest party island we've been on, there isn't really anything else to do at night so who were we to say no!? The first crazy night resulted in us getting a bamboo tattoo each, and the second resulted in us still being on the beach at 10 the next morning! Finally I got to see Maya Bay, I've only wanted to go since I was about 12! :o) I wasn't disappointed, 'The Beach' was gorgeous. The walk to the beach from our longtail boat wasn't so gorgeous though, I don't know how someone didn't slice their foot open with all the rocks!
Koh Lanta and Ao Nang were nice stop offs to chill out and generally do nothing. Koh Lanta was another beautiful island and it was the hottest weather we've had yet! Managed to find a nice secluded beach and top up our tans. Ao Nang we thought was going to be fun as we decided to camp......we couldn't have been more wrong. We were the only people camping and apart from two Welsh girls, everyone else was up themselves and in Dean's words 'weird'. We did have a good day on the beach, lay there from about 11am until 6pm, as we knew we might not see a beach again for a while! I must say our tans are looking pretty darn good!
Our last stop in Thailand was down in Hat Yai, the Deep South. Managed to catch up with Jackie again and see the other bar thats part of his business empire, Boo Bar. It's named after the funniest dog we've ever seen, Boo. He's a English Bulldog, totally overweight, lazy and his tounges too big for his mouth! Pic will follow! Hat Yai has no tourists, the only white people there are English Teachers and overweight middle aged men that can't get a wife at home! Saying that it was good to be in a Thai city and see how they actually live when tourists aren't around. All of the Thai kids pointed, stared and laughed at us when we were walking around. Most of them have probably never seen a white person in the flesh! The nightlife was different to what we've been used too as normally your drinking with other tourists not Thai people. Was really good fun though and met loads of nice people. One guy called Kumar, who is in Jackies Bike Club, gave Dean a shot of his BMW 1100 superbike....it was so big he could hardly touch the ground! A few drinks and he'll drive anything!
It felt weird leaving Thailand after being there for three months, normally when we arrive in a major city it's Bangkok but arriving in KL a few days ago felt so strange. It actually felt really good to be seeing different cultures again, although it was hard to stop ourselves from saying hello and thank-you in Thai! As we'd been in KL before there wasn't really anything for us to do but go out and spend some pennies! Our camera started taking pink photos in Hat Yai so it was time to purchase a new one. We've been eyeing up some Canons for a while so we finally settled on the Canon G12. The pictures are amazing! Be prepared for some professional photographer shots! ;o) Hopefully we might be able to sell some as buying the camera has killed our budget for Cambodia and Laos!
As you can all tell from our blogs we've had a blast in Thailand but we're definitely ready to explore some more countries!
Cambodia here we come!
Lots of Love
