Today I missed my alarm which wasn't a good start as I had to rush around before being taken to the Great Barrier Reef! From the worlds most biodiverse land ecosystem, to the most biodiverse ecosystem on the planet. And what an amazing place.
To be fair although my weather in Oz hasn't been as great as hoped, when its mattered its been perfect. Today was no exception. The water was as still as a pond. Sun was shining and the marine life was out in force! I saw so many cool fish of all different colours. The coral reef itself was fantastically dramatic! There were even turtles and a sting ray - this was a bit concerning as Steve Irwins accident occurred a few miles down the coast from where I was. It was actually quite a shock... I was swimming along and saw a massive sea turtle just there in front of me floating along. It was so breathtaking to be in the water swimming with one, especially as I missed the chance in the Whitsundays. As I got closer a silky smooth white sting ray shot between the two of us. I turned to see where it went and it was gone. So I decided to take a look and swam around some coral and figured I lost it. As my feet dropped as I rested I looked down and from the white sand beneath me shot out the sting ray! I almost stood on it!
After my adventures in the water we jetted back to land and I spent some time trying to regathering some energy reading my book. Then in the night had a few beers at the table with my roomy and a few of her friends. It was really cool! Talking about New Zealand has got me so excited!
