'SNOOP DOG BLOG'
Let me paint you the picture...
H (Heather Garriock) and I are prancing down the hallway of our level in the Radison Blu. The lift doors draw open and we begin our descent sharing the following conversation:
Sal: "I just love our adventures H, we always discover something."
H: "Yeah we always tend to spot something out that's a little different."
So we wander out of the lift and in to the foyer. People arriving and departing. You know, the usual... Three big black buses have arrived, must be a big tour group I thought to myself. We are greeted by Kimmy Carroll and her family and then bombarded by Leena Khamis with photos. Photo's of who you ask...
Ummmmm...SNOOP DOG. Yes, H and I had walked straight past him. Straight away I'm trying to remember what the man looks like and H has trotted off in search of him. Passers by pointed in the general direction, with one thick German accent commenting that Snoop Dog was wearing a funny hat.
There he was in the lift as the doors are closing. H and I automatically act like we 'is homies'... making hand gestures at him, like all the cool dudes. What became of us? He was influencing us beyond our control. As the lift doors were drawing to a close, H points out his shoes. We laughed uncontrollably. We just stared at Snoop for a good 10 seconds. Oh bless you natural highs.
The greatest part of the whole experience was sitting the kids down when they arrived home from training and letting them know SNOOP was staying in our hotel. First it was disbelief... screaming and laughter soon followed ...and still a hindering sense of disbelief.
It didn't end there. We had dinner and ice-baths (remembering football being our priority)... The drivers had arrived and were in the foyer from 7pm. Snoop's entourage would come down in dribs and drabs. 'Hanging out' around the bar...
Meanwhile the Germany vs France game is being televised so that was a welcome distraction for most. The main reason why I was excited was because of the young girls and the effect Snoop has on them...the buzz this man created. Teigan Allen looked as if she might cry and admitted not being able to feel her legs, again the uncontrollable effect he had. He eventually made his way down through the foyer at 9:15pm... What time did his show start? :-/ He certainly doesn't mind the idea of keeping his fans waiting.
His body guard was demanding we all step aside. One voice you hear... "just one photo." (Thanks H)... Snoop obeyed and bam we all have a picture with Snoop.
That was well worth it. The buzz and natural high he created for all was unforgettable. We then re-treated to our rooms for the evening. Eleven hours of sleep we had, the whole ordeal was exhausting.
What a welcome distraction Snoop provided. 24 hours out of the most important games of our lives we were able to distance our thoughts from football. How refreshing and, for that, Snoop, I say thank-you on behalf of the Matildas.
As Tommy pointed out in our meeting just now... Distractions are good, but lets not let them over-ride our common goal. And that is beating Norway this evening.
Well H, I'm looking forward to our next adventure. Word! ;)
