Nha Trang in a sentence: A much warmer Moscow.
Despite saying we would never get the sleeping bus again, this bus was very luxurious - leather reclining 'bed' seats, wifi, A/C. The driver was much more professional with less honking of the horn, no stopping along the road to pick up random locals and letting them sleep on the floor! And the main thing was that it only took 12hours like specified so we were very happy :). However, Curt still didn't manage to grab much sleep.
When we arrived in Nha Trang it was 6am, luckily our room we had booked was ready for is to check in so we could grab a couple of hours sleep before our day started. Due to the lack of sleep we settled for a relaxing day at the beach - with 6km of sand to choose from we didn't have to venture to far from our hotel until we hit the golden sand and blue sea, deciding to hire some sunbeds rather than laying on the sand. Unlike the beach in Hoi An this beach was very busy, hardly a stretch of sand unoccupied. This wasn't too bad as you could shut your eyes and be in your own little paradise but unfortunately this was disturbed by a lot of loud Russians! (Nha Trang is full of Russians with a direct flight here from Moscow) We did manage to catch up on our sun tans though with Curts 'red tshirt' turning a nice brown colour :) and no longer looking like a typical British tan! Luckily we picked a good spot to Sun bathe as 100m further down the beach was covered in shade by early afternoon! This was due to a huge hotel currently being built on the sea front which completely blocked the afternoon sun!
Once the shade had caught up with us we headed back to the hotel to get ready for this evening, checking out a few restaurants on the way to see what they offered. The evening was spent eating pizzas (which were too cheap to miss) and playing pool in a local bar called the House of Sweets - unfortunately they did not sell any sweets :(.
Tuesday 11th November
Today was much cloudier compared to yesterday and thought we would spend it exploring the local temples and pagodas of Nha Trang. The easiest way to get around was to once again hire a scooter - a little busier here than Cat Ba but still no where near as bad as Hanoi!
Firstly we stopped at Long Son Pagoda, with a Giant Seated Buddha behind.Next stop was the Po Nagar Cham Towers - with four towers up to 18m high built in the 7th century. Finally we decided to treat ourselves to a luxury mud bath and spa - soaking in a bath tub full of mud for 20 mins and then a mineral bath for 30. At first it felt rather strange being submerged in mud but we begin to feel quite relaxed.
The evening was spent having dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant called lanterns, and drinking at the local bars, Curtis enjoying the cheap beer for the last time! Emily had an ice cream crepe which was delicious - a crepe rolled into a cone and filled with strawberries, ice cream and cream then covered in sprinkles!
Wednesday 13th November
We packed up our bags and grabbed a quick breakfast before our taxi arrived to pick us up and drop us off at the airport for our flight to Ho Chi Minh for a night!
Ho Chi Minh City 12-13th Nov
We only stayed a nught here - although we would of liked to stay longer we are eager to get to the south of Thailand and start our scuba diving qualification.
Rather hectic with all the scooters and bikes but a very nice city - dprny out last evening in a Vietnamese rooftop restaurant for our last favourite tradional dish and cocktails overlooking the city.
Before our flight to Bangkok, the morning was spent walking around Ben... Indoor market - a huge market made up of hundreds of local stalls selling everything from same, same clothes and bags to local Vietnamese crafts. The market stalls were so close together and you could not get passed the haggling of the sellers who were shoving different items in our faces trying to make a sale. Safe to say it was a relief to get out!
Got a taxi to the airport ready for a night in Bangkok for the third time! Khao San Road here we come :).
