From one boat to another, our destination for the next two days and one night. The Wanna Taki cruise boat was a massive yellow boat similar to the Yasawa flyer, only it had a floor below deck with a dorm. The most exciting thing about the boat was that it had carpet...the frst time I had stepped on carpet in a long time! Also another selling point was the fact that it had warm showers that actually had a shower head! I had been showering under a hose in cold water for far too long! Oh and don't forget the air conditioning...excellent when you are coming in from a really hot day but not so great when you have to sleep in it! It was about minus 5 at night and Barry had to sleep with his legs in his fleece and a thermal top as it was blowing straight at him! I did consider getting into my sleeping bag at one point it was that cold!
On the first day we had some lunch, (well pasta salad and sweet chilli sauce for me as the other alternative was beef) and then headed off to do an island visit. We had to be welcomed into the village by the chief and then we were shown around and looked at all of the hand crafted islnads that the women of the island had made. There were some amazing things there and after we had bought some stuff we headed to a grassy area and were treated to some Fijian dancing. It was amazing! Myself, Kim and Zoe stupidly sat at the front and Barry at the back and then came audience participation time. Guess who got dragged up to do the dancing again! Everytime, I swear my "please don't pick me face" screams out "PICK ME, PICK ME" and in Fiji you really have no choice once they ask you to dance!! Well, off I went and jumped around in front of the rest of the group with a dancer and some others.
Back on the boat the crew put some entertainment on, first up was the crab race. I picked number 13 and Barry picked the name, 'Dave'. These poor little hermits were then put into a tub and turned upside down and whoever left the circle won. There were three rounds and Dave got through to the final, eventually coming fourth, we feel that he peaked too soon in the previous rounds. Anyway, Kim won and the prize was a cocktail, we're not sure there was any alcohol in it though so we just drank some more beer and they had some more bounty rum, excellent! The next game was musical chairs. I questioned whether I should join in or not, knowing my competitive streak I thought it could be dangerous and someone would end up getting hurt. That someone was Barry when we got to the final four and I hipchecked him off the chair to make way for myself. I was technically on the chair first and possessed a larger share! It got to the finals and it was England vs Australia vs Chile...I am afraid to say that England did not make it to the final. Australia and Chile cheated and did not run around the poles but inside them, allowing them to get to the chairs before me...shocking behaviour!
Bed time came and we entered the arctic circle for our sleep. Air conditioning...excellent when you are coming in from a really hot day but not so great when you have to sleep in it! It was about minus 5 at night and Barry had to sleep with his legs in his fleece and a thermal top as it was blowing straight at him! I did consider getting into my sleeping bag at one point it was that cold!
The next day we went snorkelling, for what would be the last time in the Pacific Ocean. It was really beautiful as snorkelling in Fiji always was but it wasn't as clear and there weren't as many fish. There were tons of baby jellyfish though that kept on stinging us. It got a bit too much for me when I saw some bigger jellyfish and went to swim away and then when I looked under to check for more I got a facefull of another one and it caught me on the arm. It really hurt and I swam sooooo fast back to the boat. It was alright though, I didn't miss much as you could see all the coral at the bottom of the sea from the boat because the sea was so clear! When we got back to the Wanna Taki we were allowed to jump off of the side of the boat. It was really high and I watched everyone else do it and had clearly thought about it too much so wasn't able to do it with everyone staring up at me from the water below. When everyone got back on the boat and morning tea was served it got the better of me and I just took a running jump without telling anyone and jumped off the boat. The water went right up my nose and it stung like hell but I was glad I actually did it. That afternoon there was a bit of a shower and we sat and had lunch and chatted about our time in Fiji and what places everyone else had been to and how they all compared. It seems that we had been pretty lucky with the places we had been. Late that afternoon the Yasawa Flyer returned and we were off to the next Island.
