We arrived in Siem Reap after only a short 8 hour journey and getting ripped off by an extra $10 for our visa! We found a great hostel not that far from the main backpackers area and went out with a few friends we'd made from the bus. We weren't out late as we'd decided to go to Angkor Watt for the sunrise at 5.30am! Being one of our earlier starts to the day it was a bit
tough but was worth it for the experience! From Angkor Watt we went to the few temples that surrounded it which were amazing and we even found a little Cambodian tour guide aged around 6 who followed us around telling us what was what and drifting in and out of the English and Cambodian language. At first we were a but sceptical whether he was after money but he didn't seem to ever disappear so we gave up trying to run away from him. Until the end when he threw a strip when he asked for money and didn't accept the truth that we had not bought any money with us. Making a quick run for it we found our tuc tuc driver just after a boy cried and shouted at us for not buying his postcards? We met up with some friends that evening and went out on pub street which was a good laugh.
The next day our tuc tuc driver picked us up again and took us to the boat place for the floating village. The water was filthy and so muggy and children were playing and swimming in it as we went past! Arriving in the village it was so strange and so obviously poor, the tour guide told us how the only job was fishing and how many people died doing this which left so many children orphaned, this is where our next stop was. The orphanage, we bought over some food being informed that they rarely had the money for big dinners. We walked through and looked over a class that was going on. The children were so sad and miserable not like how you'd expect and want them to be! On our way back we stopped and looked at the fishing shop which had crocodiles and massive fish swimming around. We left for Sihanouk Ville that evening on a our first night bus of the trip, which was an awful experience!
