We woke up early to embark on the 9 hour journey to the Gulf coast which ended up being the following:
Private taxi
Public boat (only farangs on the boat)
Songtaeaw (public bus)
'Miniwan'
Coach
Ferry
'Miniwan'
I was apprehensive to stay at the very well known 'Chaweng beach' supposably full of ladyboys and buckets but I did not see any of the sort in our short stay, instead only a beautiful beach and some great street food. We did however have a strange occurrence meeting a 6-year long travelling French man who seemed to appear everywhere we were. We quickly shook him off after being afraid that he was befriending us to take our valuables and carried on with our Samui experience. For a place that has such a bad name, I was happy to stay here for a bit as it has everything you are looking for in a holiday stay- which I guess is why it is so popular with foreign tourists. A white sandy beach, clear clean sea, numerous restaurants and bars of all variety and of course the massage parlours and 7/11 stores a plenty. We couldn't afford the restaurants so stuck to the night market and relished in the cheap cost of the food! We found our favourite dish- deep fried whole fish! After stuffing our faces for 2 nights we sadly had to leave. The rain arrived so onwards to Koh Phangan where I have booked the best place ever at Had Salad beach. A lonely planet special!
Number of Changs: jet (7)
Night market dishes in total: gow (9)
Accommodation value: 'the loft' rates a 8/10 (at £12 a night you can't complain)
Thai words learnt: ever increasing
Mai pen rai
(No worries)

chris Thought you were trying the local cuisine, I am sure that beans on toast is an English dish !!! We know what a lady boy is but not a bucket ?? please explain, and like your mum says keep away from strange Frenchmen, just get Oli to show is onions, then they will be sure to run !!!! Good luck and speak soon Luv the Smyth's
Charlotte I knew someone would comment on that photo, they aren't beans, they are peanuts with their brown coating still on!! The only non Thai dish we have been having is scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast :) and that's the best start of the day! Enjoy xfactor tonight, i have not watched tv for over a week now!! xxxx
Uncle chris Ah I see, I would never have guessed they were peanuts. Just to let you know that we are booking a couple of uni open days, taking your advice and going to Oxford Brooke's and Portsmouth. Have you looked on my twitter, a couple of interesting photos, one of which you are in !!! Oh yeh and you haven't said what buckets are ??? Have a nice day Luv
