Week 12- Thailand (Krabi) Day 4
So today ended up to be a pretty awful day. When we first woke up I wasn't feeling great but decided I needed to get some breakfast inside me so went down the road to find a cafe. We both had muesli, fruit and yoghurt which was actually really nice. I haven't been feeling great for the past week with on and off symptoms so I decided I better go to the pharmacy. It was a mission in itself finding a chemist that could speak English. She gave me some tablets to ease my stomach and we headed off for a lazy day on the beach. Both myself and Gemma felt absolutely drained even though we had slept for hours the night before.
While sunbathing a lady came up to us offering us a deal for massages. We decided that we should treat ourselves to make us feel better so headed off to the shop... Just what the doctor ordered. We both had an hour long coconut oil massage which was incredible, I had a pedicure and Gemma had a facial. It made us feel really relaxed, although, I had a headache when walking back to the hostel.
We spent some time chilling and showering before heading out for dinner. In this time I really began to feel sick but thought I needed to get food inside me again. We decided to go for a Mexican. The food actually went down okay which I was surprised about but I still felt dreadful so we went straight back to the hostel afterwards.
After speaking to my sisters we decided I should go to the hospital to get seen as my symptoms were in cycles which is similar to malaria. We thought it was best to go on precaution and to find out what was wrong because I was in a bad old way. We got straight in a tuk tuk that took us to the first standard clinic just up the road. The receptionist took down some details then I was seen by the doctor.
He decided that I needed to stay in hospital overnight on a drip because I looked so exhausted. This is my worst nightmare let alone being in a foreign country without my mummy! Nevertheless, Gemma was an absolute hero and calmed me down when I was getting myself worked up! I had a little freak out when I had to have the cannula put in, along with a blood test and injections. These are all my phobias. We were then transferred upstairs into an overnight room. Firstly the electricity wouldn't come on and then I realised my vision had gone really blurred and I couldn't read. Gemma asked the doctor and apparently it was a side effect from one of my drugs... Pretty scary esp as I wasn't warned. The room was nice and Gemma was provided with her own bed which I was really pleased about. It was more like a hotel room and had better TV channels than the one in our hostel! I wasn't a fan at all of being attached to a drip, and started to work myself up again however lucky enough I managed to fall asleep! We were both in and out of sleep throughout the night because the nurses were in and out checking my observations. It turned out I have gastroenteritis. Boooo.
