Week 11- Thailand (PhiPhi) Day 7
So today we decided to take the advice of the lad from the scuba diving centre and headed to Long beach for the day. This is the other side of the island but we were told it was absolutely beautiful and always really quiet. The local beach has been slightly ruined because it is were all the partying goes on at night.
We got some breakfast from one of the little restaurants then headed on our mission of a walk. It took about half an hour but it was a bit of an obstacle course, at some points we had to waddled through the sea then up giant steps into the jungle. It was a very scenic route to say the least. At the end we basically had to scramble down the rocks to get onto the beach, it's good job we are young and fit!
The beach was as said- beautiful. The sand was so fine and white, and there were huge waves crashing at the shore. The waves were so big we struggled to get into the sea without being taken down, so that was rather entertaining for the people around us. We spent the day chilling out (even though it wasn't very sunny) and sunbathing on the beach.
We decided at about 5pm to start heading back because we had the journey back to complete! The walk on the way back didn't seem too bad and we picked up some bracelets from the little village which was cute. We decided to have an early dinner then a snack tonight (this is our new eating plan as we have been going to bed in food comas!). So we headed to a restaurant and had falafel with pita and salad. It was delicious but there was so much of it!
It was then time to head back to our tin shed (hostel) for an afternoon nap ready for our night out tonight. We both slept for about 2 hours then started getting ready. We headed to reggae bar which we heard sold good Mexican and also had live professional Thai boxing. Well the food was crap and the boxers were actually about 8 years old, plus it was empty. So we ended up arguing to get a refund on dinner (we won). The lady didn't understand why we didn't enjoy eating raw stuffed potato skins until I bent it in half to prove it was like rubber. It was pretty entertaining as she then didn't know what to say apart from to refund us.
We took a stroll down to the beach and found ourselves in Slinky's beach bar. This place is completely crazy and so are all the workers! It had a fire burning limbo pole which people were going under and I ended up getting carried under by one of the Thai lads (as you can imagine I screamed the whole way under). There were also fire skipping ropes and fire circles to jump through... We stayed well away from these... We learnt from Maffo's mistakes and his disgusting foot! Every time someone went through the fire they would get a free shot so you can imagine it was getting very messy. The Thai's ended up just bringing us a constant supply of free shots just while sat watching. One Thai tried to chat up Gemma was absolutely hilarious, you can all imagine the way she reacted, not impressed (to be fair I thought he was a girl at first and he had a stretched ear lobe). What a delight. So we spent the evening having banter with him and his friend (who got angry when he found out I had a boyfriend) and pretty much danced the night away. By the end of the night we were the only customers in there with both the English and Thai workers. We did a lot of dancing to Beyoncé and enjoyed the free Chang beers that seemed to be supplied. The Thais kept climbing up a pole which was about 2 metres high and dancing on top (they could hardly fit both feet on at once it was so narrow) they are completely bonkers... Earlier on in the night they had been throwing fire poles up to each other on there for performances. We just don't know how they do it, they are unbelievably strong yet so dam skinny!
So after shaking our booties and feeling a little bit tipsy we decided it was time to head back to our hostel at about 2am. When we got back I went outside the room to FaceTime Brad in the hallway because the wifi was better and Gemma wanted to shake some sand off her.. All of the sudden I heard 'Charlotte I might have locked us out' hahaha. This was hilarious particularly because the Thai heavens opened at the same time. I ran down to reception and it was completely locked up, we thought we were going to have to sleep in the hallway in the rain... Throughout our stay it seemed like the Thais lived in a little shack attached to the hostel so we knocked and knocked and knocked. Luckily Gemma managed to find a little lady that had a key... We was straight to bed once we got back in after our eventful night!
